On the Stepstones, things are not going so well for Daemon and Corlys. Still in the Kingswood, a wild boar gets the better of Ser Criston, and Princess Rhaenyra finally gets to take out her frustration on something when she kills it. Book readers will be aware that this marriage will happen but is going to be the source of much drama in episodes to come. Meanwhile, Lord Lyonel Strong comes back to the king with a similar proposal to the last episode, except this time to marry Rhaenyra to Corlys’s son, Laenor. Ser Criston does his best to try and convince Rhaenyra to rejoin the party, but she refuses, and they go deeper into the Kingswood together. With the princess now seventeen, every house in the land has been flooding Viserys with letters trying to marry their sons to Rhaenyra, and as we see during the camp, Rhaenyra is not particularly interested in any of them as Jason Lannister first tries to woo her and then go over her head to her father.Ī shouting match between father and daughter in the middle of the party over these marriage prospects leads to Rhaenyra taking off on a horse, followed shortly by Ser Criston Cole. The Targaryen retinue sets off for the Kingswood to do a bit of hunting to honor Prince Aegon’s second birthday, but tensions are clearly evident on the trip and explode after Viserys has been drinking. As Viserys finds himself contending with that big of intrigue, he also continues the arduous task of trying to marry off his strong-willed daughter and contend with Daemon and Corlys’s battle against the pirates in the Stepstones.Īs so often you see in shows and movies, when things aren’t going well in a blended family, Viserys decides a good family trip will be just what everyone needs. Naturally, this has all the tongues in the court wagging since a male heir means Rhaenyra could be passed over for succession. Three years on from Viserys deciding to marry Alicent Hightower, she’s given birth to one son and is pregnant with another child.
